Cosmetology Refresher/Refresher Course Description
(SOC 25-1194.00, CIP 12.0401)
The curriculum involves 250 hours to satisfy Illinois state requirements. The course includes instruction and practical experience in Final Phase, state board, and the Pivot Point textbook. This course will assist with helping the student pass the state board written and practical exams.
*Graduates will be prepared to be an entry level cosmetologist.
This course is taught in English. Textbooks and course materials are only offered in the English language.
COSMETOLOGY REFRESHER/REFRESHER COURSE OVERVIEW
Course Hours: 250 clock hours
This course is designed to assist students who are required by the State of Illinois to gain additional hours of education in order to take the written exam. The course is divided into two designations:
- Theoretical Classroom Instruction - 160 hours are theory and final phase, including weekly test.
- Clinic Classroom Learning Experience - 90 hours are practical application in the clinic area.

Your time in the Paul Mitchell The School Chicago and Paul Mitchell The School Lombard cosmetology refresher/refresher course will be divided into two designations:
- Theoretical Classroom Instruction: This portion of instruction includes weekly tests and is a combination of training from the Pivot Point Textbook, Final Phase, and our State Board Preparatory Class.
- Clinic Classroom Learning Experience: Your time on the clinic classroom will allow practical application of the information learned in the Pivot Point Textbook and Final Phase classes, to further understanding and comprehension.

The institution offers employment assistance to help graduates’ efforts to secure education-related employment that includes, but is not limited to training in professionalism, resume’ development, job interview preparation and job search skills.
COSMETOLOGY REFRESHER/REFRESHER PROGRAM TESTING AND GRADING PROCEDURES
The following tests and grading procedures are used to assess student learning and mastery of course content in the 250-hour course:
- Students must receive a grade of 75% or higher on weekly theory exams.
- Students must receive 100% on each practical worksheet completion.
- Students must receive 75% or higher on all final exams.
COSMETOLOGY REFRESHER/REFRESHER instructional Techniques and methods
The courses are provided through a sequential set of learning steps which address specific tasks necessary for State Board preparation, graduation and job entry level skills. Clinic equipment, implements and products are comparable to those used in the industry. Each student will receive instruction that relates to the performance of useful, creative and productive career oriented activities. The course is presented through well-developed lesson plans that reflect the latest educational methods. Subjects are presented by means of lecture, demonstration, and student participation. Audio-visual aids, guest speakers, field trips, and other related learning methods are used in the course.
