Externship Policy

Student Criteria to Participate in the Externship Program

Disclaimer: Future Professionals who receive VA benefits are not eligible to participate in the externship program, per the VA education standards. Additionally, Students who wish to become licensed in states outside of Washington should consult with the state board of the transferring state to verify that externship hours are accepted towards licensure.

  1. The Future professional must have met the following requirements to participate:
    1. 90% attendance
    2. 75% minimum on all theory exams
    3. Up to date on all practical requirements
    4. All Evaluations are completed and passed with a minimum score of 75%
    5. Up to date with all Professional Development requirements
  2. Future Professionals will apply to salons for available externship programs.
  3. The Participating salon will select approved applicants.
  4. Future Professionals may extern for up to 10% of their contracted hours, but must do so in their final 20% of the program.
  5. Future Professionals must wear their Paul Mitchell The School nametag while externing in the salon.
  6. The Future Professional must follow all Future Professional guidelines and Salon/Spa policies and guidelines while externing. If the future professional is unable to meet those requirements, the student's externship will be terminated and the student will return back to the campus to complete the remainder of their hours.
  7. Should the Future Professional choose to terminate the externship with the contracted salon/spa, they may return to the campus to complete the remainder of their hours.
